Vote YES on AB 70
Why?
Voting “yes”
on AB 70 will maximize the ability of California to
compete for and receive public as well as private grants related to prevention
and management of diabetes in the Cambodian community of Greater Long Beach. By
promoting a comprehensive-wide community health promotion and disease
prevention plan, chronic disease rates and overall healthcare costs can be
reduced.
Evidence:
- Each year, 7 out of 10 American deaths are caused by chronic diseases which accounts for more than 75 percent of our nation’s healthcare spending.
- Investment of $10 per person per year in proven community-based prevention programs, rather than treatment, could save the country more than $16 billion annually within five years. This is a return of $5.60 for every $1.
- Empower and sustain healthy communities by providing individuals with skill-building exercises, tools, and services to prevent diabetes as well as promote general health.
- Generate new job opportunities in public health for nurses and other health care professionals.
